Malawi: Chikwawa District Commissioner, Alex Mdooko has urged Councillors for Chikwawa to look at each other as development partners and not competitors to ensure meaningful development in the district.

Speaking to the councilors who all belong to the Democratic Progressive party (DPP) at Chkwawa Boma Thursday, the District Commissioner urged the Councillors to work with all manner of people such as communities, traditional leaders and Members of Parliament despite their political affiliation in developing the district.

“It is good that as Malawi is celebrating 50 years of independence this year, it has managed to elect Councillors after 9 years without them which shows that we are maturing and have a development oriented spirit in order to make a difference in our country’s social, economic and political development.

“I therefore urge you as councilors, to represent your people and their aspirations not any political party and you should be able to cooperate with your traditional leaders in order to deliver efficiently to your communities,” Mdooko said.

During the ceremony, five Members of Parliament of the district together with the 12 councilors also elected Dyson Manjolo and Collex Namkumba as chairperson and Vice chairperson of the district council respectively.

The elected Chairman assured all stakeholders who attended the ceremony that he will make sure that the people of Chikwawa who are the owners of the land are able to benefit from various companies which are in the district and that the district is free from corrupt practices.
