Mchinji: 24 people who were supporters of ruling Peoples Party PP including the Chairperson for Mchinji West constituency Monday defected to Peoples Progressive Movement PPM.

According to the Chairperson Abiti Patuma the 24 are impressed with the developmental agendas that president of PPM Mark Katsonga has promised especially on youth and Agriculture.

Patuma told people who gathered at Mchinji Boma that PPM’s 20 points plan which includes closing the account number one have convinced them that Katsonga can make a better Malawi for everybody if voted into power come Tuesday next week.

“We have realized that PPM’s 20 points plan are capable of making Malawi a better place for everyone, the closing of account number one, promoting the youth and finding reliable markets for smallholder farmers which include handing over ADMARC to farmers are some of the points which have impressed us to join PPM”, said Patuma.

In his remarks Katsonga said the defection of people into his party from different parties is a sign that people are tired of governments which have been abusing account number one hence need to change things come Tuesday next week.

Katsonga who seem to be optimistic of winning next week’s elections also said most candidates are being investigated on different cases in court thus opting to go to state house as one way of running away from the cases which they are being accused of.

The PPM’s presidential candidate further said if voted into power he will handover ADMARC to farmers so that the profit which it accumulates should be for farmers not for government as is the case now.

Katsonga who visited Mkanda and Mchinji Boma on Monday also showcased his party’s shadow MP’s for two constituencies which include Joseph Mazizi Ngozo for Mchinji East and Grevazio Chiomba for Mchinji North constituency.

Among other things Joseph Mazizi Ngozo who is also the PPM’s spokesperson told the gathering at Mchinji Boma that he will upgrade dilapidated roads around Mchinji Township and help farmers find reliable markets for their produce.
