It is with profound embarrassment that I write as a Malawian because what I read and follow unfolding in my country is beyond belief.People who occupy The National Assembly are supposed to be capable people of integrity. Well we know now that for a long time this has not been the case in Malawi but I had rather hoped that some degree of decency would prevail and an attempt at correcting the present situation genuinely would happen but what I see is complete confusion and chaos! I dare say the chaos and confusion are manufactured to cover  and confuse what is going on and some individuals are trying to cover up!

The current government is Peoples Party and under this government it has been found that a lot of government funding has been misappropriated. This is the issue that needs addressing. The perpetrators need to be found, the money needs to be recovered and the individuals need to be tried and punished accordingly. This should apply to EVERYBODY who has misused government money. Full stop. It is obvious that the present PP are doing their best to spare some people from this process. This is not going to help the country at all.

There is a lot of talk about DPP also misappropriating money from government coffers. Ok. What is needed is proof. If that proof can be got and proven that an individual has done or has committed a criminal offence in that sense they too need to be apprehended and sent through the same system that any thief goes through with deserved punishment at the end of it.

What I see happening is that this whole thing is being politicized to the point of confusion. PP have worked out that if they can mad sling DPP and Mutharika and his party at this point they will make people forget about their own very seriously malposition as far as the present  scandal is concerned. This then keeps DPP busy defending themselves and so the day instead of addressing what needs to be addressed, i.e. ” who stole how much money from the peoples of Malawi” time is spent exchanging negatives about each other.

On top of which we have a drama queen for a president who always uses these situations to enhance herself. She claims someone is threatening to kill her for exposing corruption. Well first of all I don’t recall Joyce Banda exposing any corruption. Exposure came about because some man called PWHIYO got greedy and got shot as a result. This started a chain revelations which has taken us to this point we are in today. What I know is that this mess has happened under her government, and there are some big names she seems to be shielding for ‘guessable’ reasons! In other words the system was so abused that it has burst to the surface and what now needs to happen is a ruthless sort out! Full stop!

My concern is this:The people who would see the sort are very people involved in the scandal. The fact that they are involved in the scandal suggests that they a rather weak moral fiber or rather they stand on weak principles; so can they deliver? But also it takes a real mature person to self criticize and change your ways; will this cabinet be able to do this to itself? I fear not, they have already demonstrated that what they intend to do is cause confusion, blame other people and leaving the average Malawian wondering what really did happen so they, the wrong doers can get away with it.

You see what I find lacking is that thing called SENSE OF DUTY, SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY. these people do not understand that the Government has people’s lives in their hands. Our government certainly at the time I am writing this article is composed of very selfish people who are in their jobs for the wrong reasons!I draw this conclusion from the goings on of the last few years!

The tall order for Malawi is how do we get rid of the poor quality politicians we have now so we can sort this mess out? Has Malawi in fact got good quality people who understand about being responsible, being duty bound. I recall with nostalgia in the old days when I was young, chiefs in the village were like that. I come form a chieftainship and I recall how my late Grandma felt so responsible for the well being of the whole village so I can’t believe that Malawi has lost all such good people. The point is how do we get them into these jobs?

In May ,2014 the country has a chance to make a choice. How does a Malawian citizen decide who is best for our country? Certainly you can’t go by political castigation because you don’t know what is true. Then you can’t ignore it all because they say there is no smoke without fire but somehow somewhere this process of confusion needs to stop to give Malawians a sense of direction so they can try to get their country into shape.

Joyce Banda you and your Government have put Malawi to shame! have put Malawi through unnecessary suffering and from my perspective I see that you all have done this for your own selfish reasons. I personally do not want you anywhere near government come 2014 May. I just pray to God to give us wisdom to chose an alternative that is better meaning than this that we have now. Enough is enough. People are dying in empty hospitals while the government! the safe keepers of the nation! are squandering the resources! this is too much to forgive, this is  one very angry, embarrassed, and slightly confused Malawian. Very ineffective government indeed. Deal with the present problem don’t use it to hide your sins!you are very dangerous you people! Malawi deserves better leadership to this!
