Lilongwe, Malawi: Malawi will, from Tuesday, October 22 hold a three-day meeting for Council of Ministers in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) to finalise the recruitment process of new Deputy Executive Secretary: Regional Integration.

Speaking on arrival at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) ahead of the meeting, SADC Executive Secretary, Dr Stergomena L. Tax, said the role of the position which was earlier held by Angolan Joao Caholo is crucial in enhancing economic relations in the region.

“The main job of the Deputy Executive Secretary is to assist the Executive Secretary and the whole SADC Executive in strategising regional economic advancement.

“That should emphasise how crucial his role is, considering that SADC is geared towards enhancing regional economic activities,” said Dr L. Tax.

She also revealed that the recruitment process started six months ago and four candidates have been nominated, though she did not disclose the dandidates.

The three-day final recruitment process will include interviews for the four candidates on Tuesday, analysis of the interview outcome and the final appointment and announcement of the newly appointed Deputy Executive Secretary on Thursday.
