The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said it’s delegates are ready to elect a strong and determined team which will lead then to state house in 2014.

Nicholas Dausi the DPP spokesman has said the convention will “bond” the party ahead of the election tour ahead.

He played down assertions of parallel structures, one supporting acting president Peter Mutharika and the other supporting Malawi Speaker, Henry Chimunthu Banda.

“We once had parallel structures but those are far gone.  We no longer have parallel structures in DPP, we are DPP, one team and one family but with different aspirations, our aim is to be in government in 2014, we can we can only achieve that if we have a decent team, we are here to elect that team” said Dausi.

The conference will elect candidates in various positions, some of those positions are:

President: Two contestant Peter Muntharika and Chimunthu Banda speaker of Parliament

Vice president central region: Contestants are Dr. Hetherwick Ntaba and Steve Kamwendo

Vice president Eastern region: Contestants are Yunus Mussa, Ernest Malenga, Lonnie Chijere Chirwa and Ali Allan

Secretary general: Contestants  Dr. Jean Kalilani, Ted Kalebe, Binton Kutsaira and Dr Allan Chiyembekeza

Treasure general: Contestants areDr. George Chaponda, Henry Mussa and Noel Masangwi

publicity secretary: Contestants are Nicholous Dausi and Francis Kasaila

National director of elections: Wifred Nawena, Kondwani Nankhumwa and Tarcisious Gowelo

Director of youth for the South: Lewis Ngalande and Francis Phiso

The following positions will simply be endorsed as there are only one candidate

Vice president Northren region: only one contestant MP Nick Masebo

Director of women: Patricia kaliati

National campaign director: Bessie Chirambo

Director of research: Ted Salule Masangwi

p>The DPP will conduct whistles stops in the various townships in Blantyre before delegates will elect the national governing body members (NGC).Despite all the legal challenges facing its senior members DPP have managed to organize the convention, delegates started arriving on the 16th and yesterday the 17th saw the arrival of its current leader and presidential candidate Peter Muntharika.
