Unrest in Malawi as Peter Muntharika is arrested

Blantyre, Malawi: There was street fighting in Blantyre between DPP supporters and police as Prof. Peter Mutharika came to hand himself in to police. The supporters came to show their solidality to their leader Prof. Peter Mutharika.DPP supporters were seen in the highway which runs between Blantyre and Limbe. Ginnery corner in Blantyre was full of supporters in blue. The street unrest have spread to central region where all those arrested are being transferred to.

The police issued a warrant of arrest on him in connection with the transition plot he is suspected to have been part of immediately after the death of his brother late President Bingu wa Mutharika in April last year due to heart attack.

 

Mutharika is one of other party members arrested by police in relation to the matter. Party supporters have warned the police and the government that there will be unrest in Malawi if justice is not done. Some of the ring leaders of the so called coup are in government.
