Malawi: As parliament is still discussing in the Capital Lilongwe, the opposition United Democratic Front has described its change in sitting plan in parliament as positive.
This comes following the announcement parliament made on Thursday that it will start recognizing the UDF as an opposition block following UDF’s decision to part-ways with the government in parliament.
But since May 2012, the UDF has been recognized as part of the ruling party following its then relationship with the governing People’s Party PP.
Reacting to the development, UDF’s new deputy leader in the house Mahumad Lalli added Malawians should expect an effective opposition.
“This is going to be a very good opposition side as what we want is to serve Malawians. We will continue trying to represent those that are affected and not only our views and this is why we are saying ours is an effective opposition party in the house,” he said.
With these changes Honorable Atupele Muluzi is the new leader of UDF, while Clement Chiwaya has become the party’s chief whip and Ernest Yahaya will be his deputy.
