By our reporter,

Blantyre: The consumers association of Malawi has given government 21 days to respond to its petition through demonstrations they had on Thursday 17th January.

According to CAMA executive director John Kapito, the demonstrations were peaceful as nobody has been reported dead or property being destroyed.

“What I can say is that we can see the devil has been ashamed.  People never expected we could hold peaceful demonstrations but this is what we have just done!” he said excitedly.

Asked what they have planned to do if government does not respond in the given dates, Kapito said “We will see the plans if they do not take into consideration the petition we have delivered.  But in the mean time, I cannot say what we will do if they do not, let us just wait and see.”  Kapito said.

He later thanked all people for agreeing on one thing and achieved what they planned to do.

Commenting on the demonstrations, Southern Region Deputy Spokesperson said nobody has been reported injured or dead.

“Police did their job very well and we have not registered many cases as compared to the previous one” she said.
