By our reporter,
Malawi: As Lake Malawi wrangle-talks with her neighbor – Tanzania draw closer, government has decided to engage religious leaders to assist in the process.

This has been confirmed by principal secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs; Patrick Kabambe who said this has been done as one of the ways of gathering the much needed information.

Kabambe said “Not only this but also this exercise will help government in a way that once the mediations begin, we will build a stronger case to present” he said.

“We started the exercise last week on Friday, and we met a number of groups such as the Civil Society, the Churches including Muslims and we will still be seeking ideas from many others. We understand that these groups have a very big role to play in the society and this is one of the reasons we though of engaging them.” Kabambe said.

Kabambe also said the exercise will also involve historians who will better give an overview of the situation and also explain better on what they know concerning the matter.

Former SADC heads of states have set next week to kick-start mediations to settle disputes between the country and its neighbor eastern – Tanzania over the ownership of Lake Malawi.
