By our report,

Malawi: Government says it is ready to host the Africa Union Summit despite economic hardships the country.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Patrick Kabambe said though the country is preparing properly for the AU summit to be held in August.

“For a country to be given a chance of hosting such a big function, there are several things that are taken into consideration some of them being that there is democracy in that country. Not only this Malawi is a peaceful country and with the new government, it seems people have confidence on our country, a thing which we need to be proud of,” said Kabambe.

“Although, some may think Malawi may not be able to host the summit because of economic problems, we have to understand that this is not a function which Malawi will use its resources only. Other countries will also support us. The summit will also help in bringing money in the country which will later help to boost our economy, so you can see that we will also benefit a lot from this function.” Kabambe said.

Kabambe added that in terms of a place where the function will take place, he said “We are looking into that and we have many good places in Malawi including the Bingu International Conference Center, so interms of places, that is not a problem,” said Kabambe.

Before this time, Malawi also hosted African Union Summit in 2001 in Blantyre
