Malawi:The Malawi Union of the Blind has requested government to consider the welfare of the visually impaired people in the country.

This call has been made as this is the week when the country is commemorating the living standards of the blind under the theme brail is knowledge and knowledge is power.

In his remarks, Executive Director for the organization Ezekiel Kumwenda said time has come that the country needs to put much effort in improving the welfare of the visually impaired people.

Kumwenda said the blind need resources in their daily life including in their academic living.

“We would like to see the blind having all the required resources in this world of technology. We have to understand that they can do a lot in improving the country and understanding this means giving them all the needed materials so that they live the same life everyone is living. Otherwise, Malawi is still behind in improving the lives of the visually impaired people.” He said.

Kumwenda also added that “it is sad to see that in the Malawi Examinations Board, the blind are not given much support to make their potential seen to all people” Kumwenda said
