By our reporter,

Malawi: As the youth and children’s parliament deliberations proceeded, the youth in Chikhwawa have called upon all people to help in making sure that children are not exposed to pornographic items.

The youth discussed the topic taking into account the increase in the cases of many children being exposed to such films when they go to watch movies in the movie house.

The point was also raised when marking the end of the meeting on Friday where many officials from the sponsors of the event and chiefs were present and had to answer all the concerns that the young members discussed.

Commenting on the issue of pornography was the guest of honor Paramount Chief Lundu who said there is really a need to fight against pornography in the district as this is pushing many children to indulge in sexual behaviors and contract diseases in the process.

“The issue to do with pornography is a very serious issue and it is important that we all take action. It has been observed that in many market movie houses, they show such kind of items and we as elders would like to condemn such behaviors in strongest terms. But though being the case, this problem is something we can deal with if we come together and agree one thing.” He said.

“I would suggest that we people should have bi-laws that will be helping us in fighting such issues even including the child marriage problem that is rocking our district. When someone is found to have broken those bi-laws, we can also agree on how best we can deal with such people and in this way, we will rescue our future leaders from such bad behaviors,” said Lundu.

And in her remarks Chikhwawa District Social Welfare Officer Rosemary Mahata said the youth and children’s parliament has been a success as the young parliamentarians discussed very important issues that will help to promote the lives of the youth in the district.

“I would also like to commend all our sponsors for coming together and make this possible. We want such meetings to be happening time and again so that the young people come together and voice out their views.” Mahata said.
