Malawi Vice president Khumbo Kachali is still paying for his words as Consumers Association of Malawi CAMA Executive Director John Kapito has called for President Joyce Banda to fire the VP.
Last week during the opening of a telecentre at Lupaso in Karonga, Kachali made remarks concerning the presidency’s travel bill where he said,

“The president and I would not bow down to demands to cut on travel to save scarce financial resources because we do not visit your mothers or families,”

Then in a statement released on Monday by CAMA, it discussed the remarks by the Kachali as insulting and said the association needs an immediate apology on the words.
As signed by their boss Kapito, CAMA also called on the ministry of finance to reveal all expenses incurred on the VP’s trips.

It said Malawi is still not financially stable and as people are looking for measures, it was not fair for the VP to say that words which instead of giving hope, have brought anger to all people.
But press secretary to the president Steven Nhlane said the remarks are coming from a person who seems not to be sure of what he is saying.

“Kapito is the same person who was recently asking the state president Joyce Banda to resign and now he is coming with something new. Should we believe in such people?” asked Nhlane.

However just last night, minister of information was seen telling Malawians that the Vice President has apologized on his statement.

Says responsible minister Moses Kunkuyu, “The VP has regretted his remarks he made in Karonga and he is apologizing for whatever happened after that.”
