BLANTYRE: Street vendors in the city of Blantyre have peacefully relocated to designated markets in compliance with a directive to stop direct trading July 20th.

This is in contrast with the situation in Lilongwe where the vendors resisted moving into the stipulated businesses places claiming the markets are already full.

At least ten people have been arrested in the city of Lilongwe.

Meanwhile, the Malawi police, city authorities and vendors representatives are still conducting mobile awareness campaigns against the sell of merchandise on the streets.

The Malawi police are also patrolling the capital city’s streets as business is slowly returning to normal.
